FRANK OCEAN

Frank Ocean, my love. He’s been on the music scene for sometime now but I wanted to dedicate a post to him because he is one of my all-time favourite artists in the music industry to date. Music is such a big part of my life so from time to time, I will share with you a few of my favourites. Christopher Edwin Breaux, better known by his stage name Frank Ocean, is an American singer-songwriter and rapper. He started his career as a ghostwriter for artists such as Justin Bieber, John Legend and Brandy. He is also a member of Odd Future or OFWGKTA, an alternative hip hop collective fronted by Tyler the Creator where he featured in the single ‘She’.

Ocean released his debut mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra which I still believe is his greatest work. This was released via his Tumblr page around the buzz of the releases of newcomers The Weeknd’s House of Balloons and A$AP Rocky’s LiveLoveA$AP.  The single ‘Novacane’ and ‘Swim Good’ both achieved chart success, both great tracks that are firmly set in a number of my playlists. The mixtape is both openly passionate and heartfelt. The album is personal and a little political. If Odd Future’s frequent use of the word “faggot” unsettled liberal stomachs, Ocean was brave enough to stand alone, declaring on We All Try: “I believe that marriage isn’t between a man and woman, but between love and love.” He took to his Tumblr page over a year later to announce that he is gay/bisexual.

His debut studio album, Channel Orange, was released in July 2012 to critical acclaim and was promoted with three charting singles: “Thinkin Bout You”, “Pyramids”, and “Sweet Life”. In light of his latest release, a dedicate to Aaliyah with ‘At Best You Are Love’, I thought I would share with you a few of my favourites. It’s been tipped that he’s soon to release new music and I absolutely cannot wait…
