ROUX AT THE LANDAU

Recently I was invited to visit Roux at the Landau, Michel Roux Jr’s 3rd London restaurant based in The Langham Hotel. The restaurant sees the father and son working together for the first time in 20 years, bringing the talented Chris King as Chef de Cuisine, formerly at La Gavroche (another Roux restaurant). I have been working with this restaurant for under 2 years now and after hearing so many fantastic reviews, I was super excited to finally dine here.

The elegance of The Langham hotel draws excitement upon arrival. As you make your way through the impressive vaulted wine corridor where you can browse a selection of rare and unusual wines from around the world – you are taken through into the stunning dining room space.

After having a chat with the Restaurant Manager Franco Becci about the menu, the restaurant and the perfect wine pairings (great choices by the way) we instantly felt welcomed. I must say in advance, the service was 1st class and so attentive.

To start we went for the Cornish mackerel, kohlrabi salad and fine herb emulsion. This was beautifully presented and tasted delicious – by far my favourite part of the meal. Makerel can over power any dish but the fine herb emulsion not only added some much needed vibrancy but also added a lovely delicate flavour to it all.

Game, fois gras and pistachio ‘chausson’ with parsnip purée and sour cherries. This was delicious, cooked to perfection and the cherries were a nice touch.

For the mains, I decided to go for the healthier option and decided on the roast salmon with red cabbage and tzatziki dressing. I love salmon and this really was cooked to perfection and the dressing complimented the fish wonderfully.

Spit roast poussin, truffled parmentier and Madeira sauce. A nice dish, cooked very well however it would have been benefited with additional seasoning.

My favourite time, dessert! We opted for the Tarte Bourdaloue, poached pear with almonds and Amaretto ice cream. This was so tasty, I definitely recommend ordering this.

Finally we finished the meal with these delicious Petit Fours.

Overall we had a wonderful dining experience. Roux at the Landau, without being totally biased, is a gorgeous meal beautifully presented, very romantic and a special place. The service is hands down, one of the best I have experienced in London and I’d like to say a big thank you to Becky and the team for a lovely time.

I would recommend ordering from the Menu du Jour, the menu changes everyday with a fantastic selection to choose from. I’ll definitely be returning soon to try out a few other dishes, perhaps for an extravagant lunch. Why not? 🙂
